Before you get started, there are a few things to check:
- You need to have access to the account that has Global Admin permissions for your Google Workspace. You'll need to log in to Google using this email address when prompted.
- You'll need to be logged into the Upfort portal using the same email address that has Global Admin permissions on your Google Workspace. If there is not a corresponding Upfort account for that email address, you'll need to add it as an Internal Admin user and then sign in the the admin portal using that email address.
- To add the new Internal Admin account, you'll need access to the Google Global Admin account's mailbox to respond to the Upfort account creation email. Therefore, you'll need to make sure a mailbox is set up for that Google Global Admin account.
Once you have made sure that you're logged into the Upfort Admin Portal using the correct email address that has Global Admin permissions on your Google Workspace, you can continue with the installation steps below:
- Navigate to https://dashboard.upfort.com/admin/inbox-defender
- Click on set up Inbox Defender
- Select your teams email provider. Inbox Defender is currently compatible with Google and Microsoft emails.
- You will then see the steps needed to get set up.
- Click on Google Admin. A new tab will open in your Google administrator panel. Follow the steps listed to add a client ID (Upfort's) and the associated scope. You will need to authorize this change in your Google administrator panel.
- Once the permissions are set up, click on Validate.
- We will verify the set up has been completed as needed. Leave the page open as this process happens
- You will be prompted to start your Inbox Defender Gold trial if you wish. Inbox Defender Gold includes mobile email scanning and attachment scanning. You can select Skip for Now if you prefer to not start the trial.
- You will then see the page reflect that you have the Inbox Defender set up for Google. As with the other Upfort protections, you can toggle the Inbox Defender on and off as needed.
